(Abstract)

CHINA NATIONAL COMMITTEE
FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UN CONVENTION
TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION (CCICCD)

China is one of the affected developing countries with vast desertification affected areas and a certain percentage of her population is living in the affected areas. As a large country with dense population and complex environmental conditions, China is fully aware that the desertification combating is of importance to the global sustainable development of environment and economy. With continuous efforts, the ecosystem and people's livelihoods in a certain of affected areas in China have been improved gradually in some region. China is still at the initial stage of development and has shortage of funds to combat desertification, therefore, the desertification phenomena in many regions have been accelerated. China National Action Program to Combat Desertification (NAP) is prepared in connection with the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), as the national guideline to implement effectively UNCCD.
